Mind Gamz Brings Therapy to the iPhone™ with the Game Think Like a Shrink
Play Think Like a Shrink and discover what people are really thinking!
LOS ANGELES--(
BUSINESS WIRE)--If you have ever wondered what makes people “tick”, then Think Like a Shrink is the game for you. Think Like a Shrink is a therapy game for the iPhone and iPod Touch that lets you play doctor like never before.
Think Like a Shrink is the first true interactive therapy game with a narrative structure,” says Mind Gamz Director Glennis McClellan, “prior to this, psychology and mental health games consisted mostly of personality tests and quizzes. With Think Like a Shrink, players are invited to conduct their own therapy sessions.” McClellan continued, “Instead of the traditional therapy office setting, players travel back through time with Doctor Z, the game's zany resident therapist, to examine the inner conflicts of Achilles, a troubled warrior. Achilles’ words are veined with clues to problems and patterns that the player must identify, question and interpret. Throughout the game, players interact with Achilles and help him get clarification on his life issues, perhaps giving players insight into their own relationships."
“We are breaking new ground here,” McClellan continued, “brain games like
Brain Age created a market for “Mental Fitness.” Mind Gamz will expand this brain game genre into “Emotional Fitness,” which can give players new insight into human behavior."
The product design team worked closely Psychiatrists C.L. Zois, M.D. and Roosey Khawly, M.D. to ensure the game that is accurate, inspiring, and entertaining. Dr. Zois is the author of the popular self-help book
Think Like a Shrink and the classic text Short-Term Therapy Techniques.

Mind Gamz Gets Players to Think Like a Shrink With New Therapy-Based Game

Game Developers Conference 2008

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--If you've ever wondered how it would feel to sit on the other side of the therapists couch, then get ready for a new “brain training” game by software developer Mind Gamz.

“Self-help is a $10 billion industry,” said Glennis McClellan, Director of Production. “That would explain the recent breakout success of ‘Brain Age’ and other games that encourage players to exercise their minds. ‘Mental Fitness’ is an emerging market in games,” continued McClellan, “and Mind Gamz will expand the genre into ‘Emotional Fitness’ with its flagship Think Like a Shrink product line.”

Think Like a Shrink, is an adventure game that lets you play doctor like never before. Travel back through time with Dr. Z, the games resident therapist, to treat famous historical figures. Visit the ancient city of Troy, under siege by the Greeks, and examine the inner conflicts of ACHILLES, a troubled warrior in this epic tale. Dr. Z will have players “Thinking like a Shrink” as they explore issues that are as relevant today as they were 2,000 years ago.

“This game will be easy to pick up and play, regardless of your experience level,” McClellan stated. “In addition to analyzing your patient, it will include a word puzzle and match-up games.”
Psychiatrists C.L. Zois, M.D. and Roosey Khawly, M.D. acted as consultants on product design to ensure the game is accurate as well as entertaining. Dr. Zois is the author of the popular psychotherapy book Think Like a Shrink and the classic text Short-Term Therapy Techniques. “Writing is an important component of game design,” McClellan stated. “In addition to books, Dr. Zois has also written several screenplays, which was helpful in developing the storylines.”

“Therapy has always been a staple of mainstream entertainment, from the Bob Newhart Show, or Frasier, to HBO's new show In Treatment. We think games are the next logical step,” said McClellan. “Our game encourages players to get off the couch and learn ways to more effectively deal with personal and business relationships by solving someone else’s problems, and have a good time doing it.”
